Stick to a casual and cool look that shows off your personal style. Focus on simple cuts in your shirts and pants that give your date an idea of what your body looks like.

Avoid outfits that are too dressy, like a suit and tie, since you want to look effortlessly cool and attractive. Shower, pop in a breath mint, and put on a signature scent. Use one statement piece to impress your date.

It can be a shirt with a unique print, a swank watch, or a leather bracelet. Keep the rest of your look understated. For example, if you choose to style your hair, then you can wear a white v-neck and denim jeans. Start off the conversation with a cool one-liner. Casually mention an interest or hobby of yours. Your date will find your ambition refreshing and imagine all the interesting ways you spend your time.

You can bring up that you just rinsed off after you hit the gym, or you can share that you finished a business class. Just cleaned myself up after I hit the gym. How was your day? Way more interesting than it sounds. But more importantly I made them cut it short because I wanted to meet up with you. You want to try to make a genuine connection with your date. Create even more momentum and use a lot of conversation starters. You can ask about their hobbies or try out hypothetical questions.

What do you do? Joke around with your date to liven up the mood. You can make fun of yourself, tell some of your favorite stories, or point out funny details about your surroundings. Spilled that drink. My bad. Today is not my day… I tell myself every single day. We deserve it, right? You definitely do! Begin with some quick affection to test the waters. Only initiate physical touch, like a hand on their shoulder, if they suggest they are okay with that kind of contact.

They might start with a pat on your knee or they may lean in really close. You can rub their arm or sit close enough that your legs touch. For example, you can say.

Hey, there. That feels nice. Pull them into a warm embrace and tell them, "Thanks! I think you are, too. I got a little distracted there. Rushing things could kill the mood.

Posted by Sandy Weiner in communication skills in dating , dating in midlife , first date success 10 comments. I am a very youthful looking 68 year-old female.

I grew up in the fifties and sixties with high values. I did not believe in sex on first, or even second, third or fourth dates. Or is it just me? I understand your concern about men wanting sex on a first date.

This is a subject that comes up quite often in my coaching practice. First let me say, there is no right or wrong when it comes to sex early on. That being said, there are women who want sex on a first, second or third date. They want to be respected and cherished by the men they date. Unfortunately, the men were much more able to have one night stands and not call the next day. Men release testosterone during sex, which can make him less interested or attracted.

Some one night stands turn into long-term relationships and marriage. Men have told me they almost always think about sex on a first date. They may not act upon it or say anything to their date, but they are either attracted and thinking about what it would be like to sleep with her or not. If they are attracted, they will probably want to get sexual pretty quickly. It makes men MEN. They are simply acting on their attraction, while women often want more of a commitment before sleeping with a man.

I believe you need to know who you are, how you attach, and what works for you. If you know what your boundaries are when it comes to sex and physical intimacy, it will be so much easier for you to speak up and let men know, without being harsh or dismissive.

Be clear with the men you date about what you want and need to feel safe and connected before having sex. You want what you want. So, if you like him and are attracted to him, let him know. Then, get clear with him about what works for you. You can use a script like this:. I need to be in an exclusive relationship before sex. But unless they try to force you to have sex with them which is an absolute red flag , they are not bad people.

They are simply MEN who want what they want. The right man will wait for you to be ready to sleep with him. The Woman of Value Club is my monthly membership group with a one-hour monthly topic-based master class about dating over 40, and a private forum for women to connect and share their experiences. Apres, he gets real to himself and to you. Thanks for pointing it out and sharing your opinion. I like what you said about men coming in with lust and deciding how you feel about a woman after sex. What would make you stay instead of split? Plus I have already had some email and phone communications and so there is at least some general familiarity.

From some of my earliest dates I was told two rules. I have to admit that initially I was a bit intimidated by all of this even if I am a guy, as I was not ready.

After all not all guys are up to it. For each person, measuring sex is different as each person has different needs and desires. It is not only about frequency or duration of sex, both which can be huge issues when not in sync, rather it can also be about how well two people fit so to speak.

From a guys perspective there can such a difference in how sex goes. Yes ladies, some of you are just not so exciting in bed and that might be OK for the guy that does sex once a week however a huge disappointment for a guy that is seeking a sexually active relationship.

Off topic here a bit ladies, feel free to discuss these issues with that guy. What you want to do is go beyond your comfort zone with the topic and have it be fun at the same time. And you will notice that as you take these tiny steps in communication that your relationship will become that much more exciting.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about sex on a first date. And yes, communication is so important. I am older than the gentleman in his 60s who was new to dating. So you must have established enough trust to be open and vulnerable with each other and be in for some trial and error. Great point!

Humor is necessary in the dating process, especially at this age. We have to manage our expectations, and exhibit tons of self-compassion 🙂. Your email address will not be published.
